Audrey Hepburn had a fabulous dialogue in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s“:

"Breakfast at Tiffany's"
Holly Golightly: You know those days when you get the mean reds?
Paul Varjak: The mean reds, you mean like the blues?
Holly Golightly: No. The blues are because you’re getting fat and maybe it’s been raining too long, you’re just sad that’s all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you’re afraid and you don’t know what you’re afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling?
Paul Varjak: Sure.
Holly Golightly: Well, when I get it the only thing that does any good is to jump in a cab and go to Tiffany’s. Calms me down right away.
A quick stumble upon her favorite spot and she was cured of the ‘reds’ – a lesson we can all learn from. What calms you down? Where do you go when you have a case of the mean reds? Rainy days and Monday’s are often blamed for the mean reds, but an hour out of your day might be a simple cure.
It’s been raining all day in Boston, which usually means cleaning, writing and digging through drawers I forgot I had. When I get the mean reds, I tend to hibernate in my apartment, clean until the floors sparkle and think about where I’m going next…
Miami, Martha’s Vineyard, Mexico. The three “M’s” for October. But today, I stepped out into the rain, walked to the end of the neighborhood, and sat with Evana (my favorite Esthetician from the Czech Republic at Jacquelyn’s Waterfront Day Spa) and I listened to her tales of when she first arrived in America, her host family and how she met her husband. She painted my toes, massaged my hands and told me about an upcoming trip to Europe she’s planning. I love listening to how excited people get when they travel…
I walked home in the rain, stepped over the broken umbrellas strewn on the sidewalks and secretly wished I were young enough to get away with jumping in puddles. I walked up my five flights of stairs and into my little apartment, put on my favorite comfy clothes and curled up on the sofa. It hit that me in two days, it would be Monday again – between the rainy day and pending Monday, I was even more appreciative of my time on the couch with the remote.
Karen Carpenter once crooned, “Rainy days and Mondays always bring me down…” It’s hard not agree, but I’m glad Audrey Hepburn reminded me to take advantage of what I love. A little travel planning, and freshly painted toes.

I cant agree more with ” I love listening to how excited people get when they travel…” whether a rainy day, a Monday or really any day. Actually, there is only one thing better the listening to others travel stories – that is being on the road yourself.
Enjoy your 3 Ms
Stay adventurous,

When I get “the mean reds” what calms me down is
coming home too my family.
Seeing my partner in the kitchen trying a new recipe, the dogs on the look out for a treat
and birds bathing in the garden fountain, then I know I’m the luckiest guy!
The mean reds go away and I know life is good.

Jorge, you’re so right! I always find comfort in my family and friends. Nothing cures the mean reds like being with loved ones.
I find that a nice date with George Clooney or Brad Pitt helps no end. Since I do not know either gentleman, I settle for watching a movie with good-looking men in it.
I love that you pulled one of my favorite parts from my all time favorite movie, I just love Holly, Cat and Fred. When I have the mean reds I re-watch movies that make me laugh, not so highbrow, but a little Holy Grail can always cheer me up….”it’s just a bunny”.
